Munthe turned its Spring/Summer 2027 show into something much more than a runway. Set inside of what felt like an artist’s workshop, the collection brought the creative process to life. Sketches, paint marks, workwear, and the atmosphere of an atelier made it feel as though we were stepping into the mind of the woman behind the collection rather than simply watching her finished work walk past us.

Inside the Munthe Atelier
Art has always been central to Munthe, and for SS27, Creative Director and founder Naja Munthe looked to the world of a female master artist and her atelier. Rather than making the artist feel like a costume or character, which it easily could’ve steered to, the collection seemed to capture the rhythm of her creative life: the work, the mess, the ideas, and the clothes she might actually wear while making them.
That idea came through in the clothes. Refined tailoring and ties were mixed with worn worker denim, relaxed overalls, paint-like markings, and pieces that looked as though they had been pulled straight from the studio. Every stain and brushstroke felt intentional, giving the collection a sense of movement even when the silhouettes themselves were clean and structured.
An Ode to Women in Pants
If there was one thing SS27 made clear, it is that women in pants are having a moment. Tailored trousers, wide-leg denim, worker-inspired pants, and oversized silhouettes formed the foundation of the collection, paired with looks that had softer elements like ruffled dresses, lace, crochet, or delicate knits.
The contrast was what made it work. Munthe played with traditionally masculine codes, ties, suiting, workwear, while keeping the overall wardrobe unmistakably feminine. It felt less like borrowing from menswear and more like reclaiming the best parts of it. Our favorite was when all the elements of workwear came together into one look, a painter's pants, an aviator-like fur necked bomber jacket, a brown sweater vest and blue tie underneath, finished off with maroon suede sneakers.
And then there were the boots and shoe variety. The boots were incredible. Strong, slightly edgy, and exactly the kind of shoe that can completely change the attitude of an outfit. They grounded the softer pieces and made the collection feel that much cooler.
From the Atelier to Marmalade
What makes Munthe SS27 exciting is that the artistic concept never overwhelms the clothes. These are pieces designed to be lived in: trousers you can wear constantly, a jacket that works with denim, a dress that can be dressed up, and boots that somehow make everything look better.
The collection manages to make the creative process feel tangible while still giving us a wardrobe we actually want to wear. It is an ode to the woman who makes things, gets dressed, gets to work, and leaves a little bit of herself behind in everything she creates.
We were so lucky to experience Munthe SS27 in Copenhagen and are incredibly excited to see some of these pieces make their way into Marmalade for the new season. Keep an eye out...especially for the pants and, of course, the shoes!
