The Holiday Dress Code

A Little Excess

The party was charming, if a little gauche.

For a store rooted in the connection between mother and daughters, it was important to us to show how that relationship evolves over time during the holidays. What was once an afternoon spent baking cookies and building snowmen becomes a shared love for the wonders of dressing up for every winter occasion.

And holiday dressing has always encouraged a little excess.

The Dress Code

For styling, we wanted the classics to feel a little less expected. We give you plaid, feathers, and sequins paired with colored tights and polka dots. Chocolate brown in place of traditional holiday red, a very good sweater, and something entirely impractical to wear in the winter weather. The pieces were layered, mixed, and dressed up without taking any of it too seriously. A little glitz and glamour. Eloise at the Plaza.

Dressing for the Occasion

There are parties to attend, dinners that call for dressing up, and casual travel days that inevitably end with the first glass of champagne upon arrival at family Thanksgiving. The fun is in mixing the familiar with something unexpected: the holiday classics we return to year after year, worn alongside the pieces we can’t stop thinking about right now.

A Shared Sense of Style

In many ways, personal style is passed between generations in much the same way as holiday traditions. Mothers and daughters borrow from one another, disagree about hemlines, share favorites, and eventually find themselves getting ready side by side.

For this year’s Holiday Campaign, we played with that exchange, bringing together classic holiday dressing and the trends of the moment to celebrate the evolving relationship between mother and daughter.

And the shared pleasure of finding something wonderful to wear.
